April Ross

April Ross is only one of only a handful of beach volleyball athletes to win medals more than once at an Olympics. Ross will compete in Tokyo for her third Olympic medal with Alix Klineman who is a first time Olympian. In addition, Ross is aiming to capture her first Olympic gold. At 39 and has a long way to go, this could be her last shot. Nevertheless, she remains certain of taking top honors. Ross was reported in NBC Boston as saying that if you play your best, even if you do well, we'll get the gold. Also, it's a matter of chance. Ross was born on August 22, 1982, located in Costa Mesa California. She lived there along with her entire family. She was able to participate in numerous activities at Newport Harbor High School. As a prep-athlete, she also played indoor volleyball and track. She clearly was the top at the sport of indoor volleyball. Based on her biography, she was an outside blocker as well as a middle hitting volleyball player during her high-school career. Gatorade Circle Of Champions named her as the National Player of 1999. In 2000, the Orange County Athlete of the Month was also received by her in volleyball. Even though Ross Klineman and Ross are a couple from 2017 onward, the former was already a big-time player on the beach scene long before their pairing. It's true that she's been a winner of numerous major tournaments and one partner was an all-star volleyball player. Jennifer Kessy was her partner during six years from 2007 until 2013. Also, she coached Klineman and herself. Together together with Kessy, Ross won an Olympic Title in 2009 when she competed on the international circuit. The duo took silver in London's Olympic Games. The Misty Maytreanor legendary team along with Kerri Jennings took home the gold. Ross Jennings took over for May-Treanor after she announced her retirement. They won the bronze medal in beach volleyball at the Rio Olympics 2016. Ross started her college time with the Trojans at USC in her high school days. The Trojans were a few years away from when Ross hit the sand and turned professional. And her run in the Trojans' ranks was a memorable one. In 2000, she was named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and NCAA Freshman of the Year. She was also named an All-American. Additionally, she assisted her Trojans to reach the Final Four. During her sophomore year she was devastated by a personal loss but still managed to be a second All-American. Through her last two years within the team, she guided the Trojans to the top of the mountain netting consecutive national championships. For her part, she cemented her place in the history books by winning the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. The award is given to the best female college volleyball players across the nation. Ross was an international relations major at USC. Margie Ross never saw her daughter achieve the heights of beach volleyball. Ross's mother passed away from breast cancer while she was in her sophomore year at USC. However, she keeps her mother in her heart. Margie has been an inspiration throughout her life, as well as on the beach.
